Gearing up for the Building Bridges Career Fair

What is Building Bridges? Building Bridges is our Ad/PR program’s annual professional career networking event created in 2007 with CCNY faculty and the college’s PRSSA Chapter to expose Ad/PR majors to competitive internships and entry-level jobs. Alumna Stacy Ann Edwards Effs named the event.
When is it? Thursday, November 12, 2020; 6 to 8:30 pm, via Zoom.
How will it work? We’ll invite up to 30 marketing communication agencies (mix of PR, advertising and digital) to participate. Each agency rep will have his/her own Zoom Breakout room that students will be sent to for the interviews. Students will join the event via a general meeting room and we’ll send you to your breakout room on the pre-arranged schedule.
Who can sign up? If you’re an Ad/PR major currently in your 2nd, 3rd or 4th semester, you will be invited to sign up. First semester majors who are members of PRSSA or AAF may also participate. For all other first semester students, you’ll get your chance next year! Recent grads can also sign up to interview. Seniors and third semester majors will have first choice in signing up.
How do I sign up? We’ll create an Eventbrite link with a list of participating agencies in early Nov. After you research the agencies that are the best fit for you, you can sign up to interview with up to THREE agencies for 10 minutes each, one on one. Students will upload their resumes to a main file, which will be shared with your specific recruiters in advance of your interview. ALL recruiters will have access to your resume, in case you don’t get to interview with your first choice.
How do I prepare? Start by updating your resume so it showcases your skills, experience and strengths. Update your LinkedIn profile, too. Make sure both documents are PERFECT, no typos. How can I learn more? Keep your eyes out for professional seminars throughout Sept and Oct to help you prepare to showcase your best professional self. Watch for announcements on the MCA @ CCNY Facebook page, CCNY PRSSA social channels and updates from professors on when to sign up.
What if I’m afraid of failure? Don’t let that stop you! But, do the work to get ready for prime time! Talk to your professors for guidance or reach out to Prof. Appelbaum.
